One thing trade shows are great for is to see old friends. Nicky, Sion and I judged a knitting contest for Family Circle Fashions & Crafts magazine back in 1986. The magazine has gone, but we’re all still here. Is this a great industry or what!?! They just can’t get rid of us…..
In June I just HAD to get another shot of us, as Nicky and I walked through the Knitting Fever booth and reminesced with Sion.
I love this, Cari! So cool.
I am working the Spider Web Lace Cardigan from your relaxed fashions book and I think there is a mistake on Row 5. It sounds like you should be doing the dcdec, ch 1, dc all in next chain 1 space. and then ch 1, dc dec, ch 1 in the next dc. I tried it all ways and it doesnt look like the pattern shown. It should come up with a sort of wagon wheel. I think it should be dc dec in the sc space, dc in the ch spc, dc dec in single crochet, chain 4 etc. Please let me know if this is right.
Sharon, we don’t have a relaxed fashions book. Could you let me know if that’s the title of the book?
Sharon, To work Row 5 correctly, it’s important to read the description of “dc dec” (near top of pattern) very carefully.. Dc dec (decrease) sts are not worked all into the same st unless it says so very explicitly. Instead, dc dec sts are worked over multiple sts. Notice that it says to insert the hook in the NEXT ST. The words “next” and “st” are both very important. The “st” indicates that you should only insert into sts, not spaces (skip any spaces between sts). The “next” means that when working the first leg (inserting the hook the first time) you should insert it into the next st, and when working the 2nd leg (inserting the hook the 2nd time) you should insert into the (next) next st (the st following the st you just worked into when inserting the hook the first time).
In more detail, Row 5 should be worked as follows:
Ch 7, turn,
Work dc dec, working first leg in next hdc and 2nd leg in following sc (sk the ch-2 sp between these sts),
Ch 1,
Dc in ch-1 sp (the ch-1 sp between the 2 sc),
Ch 1,
Work dc dec, working first leg in next sc and 2nd leg in following hdc (sk the ch-2 sp between these sts),
Ch 4,
Dc in next dc
And so on…
Row 5: Ch 7 (counts as first dc plus ch 4), turn; dc dec, ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc dec, ch 4, dc in next dc, *ch 4, dc dec, ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc dec, ch 4, dc in next dc; repeat from * across.
I hope this helps! :):)
I purchased at Joanne’s Fabric and
Craft store. UPC 9781601409898, #75275. It has 4 chochet designs featuring Caron Spa Yarn. It has “Caron” with the trademark on bottom right corner of front cover. The book does say leisurearts.com inside the back cover.
You are right, Sharon. I just found the book. My assistant, Carrie, will reply to you shortly.
