I love this pattern but I don’t know how to knit, only crochet! Can there be a crochet version of this scarf? I love it! Thanks! Loving the sheep(ish) yarn! Xo aimee
If you scroll down to the bottom, there is a crochet version of this scarf. Doesn’t look exactly the same but looks nice. Maybe it hadn’t been added when you posted.
Linda
What is the best way to weave in ends in? There are going to be a lot of ends. Thanks, Carol
Love the scarf.
I do not knit. What would you suggest for making this in crochet (pattern)?
Too cute – but could we have in Crochet too???
I assume this scarf would look just as good crocheted? I don’t knit but think I will give it a try with a single or double crochet.
Is there a conversion for crocheting this? I would love to make this for a few people for Christmas gifts. I love it but I don’t knit.
Color Card Scarf…
How many scarves can you get out of the 21 color skeins?
What does “BO in pattern stitch” mean?
What does “gauge schmauge” mean?
How long and wide is the scarf when finished?
Thanks for your response.
Donna
I would guess you could get approx. 7 scarves out of 21 skeins.
BO in stitch patt, means that you continue in the mistake rib pattern as your binding off. This means that you knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts.
Gauge Schauge means it doesn’t really matter, because your version being wider or thinnner than mine is no big deal. That said, I’ve update the post with gauge for those who prefer having it. 🙂
Scarf is 5″ x 61″
Thanks!
Thank you for making it a crochet pattern as well, and for answering all those questions… Christmas gifts is such a great idea especially if you can get roughly 7 scarfs out of the purchase of the yarn. Thank you!
I would assume gauge schmauge means gauge really doesn’t matter since it is a scarf! 🙂
LOVE it. Totally waiting for the crochet version. Thanks for sharing.
I started this scarf last night. I found that if you CO 31 st, you can not end with K1. K2 P2 pattern leaves you with multiples of 4. That would be 28 stitches plus the extra K1 at the end. You would have to CO 29 or 33 stitches. Where am I going wrong with the 31 stitches?
Thanks for the heads up. All fixed now! xx, VH
Thank you for your help.
Always loved watching your show, Knitty-Gritty
Love it will make for my grand grandchildren (4)…with 3 scarves left over!…..Can you provide a knitted hat pattern to match!?…that would make an AWESOME set!…and justfify 21 skeins of Sheepish…..makeing probably 3-4 sets!
What is the best way to weave in ends since I am using many colors. Thanks, Carol Ralph
The best way is to leave 2 of the cut ends different lengths with the shortest being 3″. Weave each one separately into the same color in a diagonal direction, around one of the sides of the V in a knit stitch and the bump of the purl. While some people dispute the following, I like to weave the last 2 sts by going through the stitch, in a way, in essence, splitting the yarn.
I love knitting and quilting too, on quilt we have some scraps friendly projects, today when i take a look on this scarf remind me immediatly quilt scraps projects. Yarn friendly project 😀
Nice i love it!
Isn’t that pretty! Love it! I crochet and knit, but mainly crochet!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for a crochet version,
My pleasure!
Thank you for the crochet version! Love your patterns, just cannot knit.
Hi Vickie, I love the look of this scarf. I’m a beginning crocheter and I’m not quite sure about the crochet instructions, probably just cause I’m new at this.
After Row 1, the row 2 instructions say to repeat row 1. Then the next rows 3-252 say to repeat the last 2 rows. Seems to me the the entire scarf is just row 1, since row 2 is row 1. What am I missing?
JULIE
My wish came true! Woop woop crochet version! Thanks vickie, you rock! Xo aimee
Love them both. I may give the knitted one a try!
Vickie…you are such a doll to whip up a crochet version for those of us that prefer crocheting! I think you are adorable and have enjoyed seeing my inbox with your newsletter in it. In fact, I look forward to it! Keep up the fantastic job!
I love love love this scarf I too would like to make some for christmas gifts and getting 7 scarves is great for the purchase of 21 skiens cause thats 7 gifts taken care of, dont think i could do it for just one scarf even though i would love too and i am a yarn yunkie i have a whole bookshelf full and 3 trashbags full and am now thinking about going to get 21 skiens of sheepish, lol husband will kill me. Maybe i should try to do a similar one with what i have first and see how it turns out, dont think i could do as well with picking what colors go where though. anyway thank you for crochet version, I am new to knitting but i am at intermediate level of crochet. again love love love it.
thank you for sharing it with us.
Yes finally not forgetting us crocheters! I’m very tired of all the new patterns tht are unique to knitting and only seeing the old granny squares redone for crochet! Work on it – we like versatility and creativity too! So this wonderful! Even if it is simple 🙂
Hi Vicki, I too want to extend my thanks for posting the crochet version of this scarf. I am new to knitting and am thinking about trying this to practice my skills (or lack thereof) but if that doesn’t work at least I know I can make the crocheted one. Seriously, thank you for watching out for those of us who crochet. It’s nice to have someone on our side!!!
Love it. Another way of doing it is using double crochet and front (and back) post stitches instead of the front (and back) loop. A little more difficult for those up for a challenge.
Thank you sooo much for putting this in crochet format! I was trying to figure it out because I absolutely love this scarf.
I can’t knit either, but I’m going to try Knooking (knitting with a crochet hook) to get it done. Either that or tunisian crochet.
Thank you for the crochet version. I only crochet so I appreciate it. Thanks again.
Hi Vickie…
Just a heads up, for beginning crocheters and people who take a bit to figure something out–me–you might want to change the way the mistake rib in crochet pattern is written. As is stands now it says “2sc in front loop, 2sc in back loop” That really leads one to believe you mean TWO singles in each stitch. Instead maybe you could change it to say “sc in the front loop of next two stitches, sc in the back loop of the next two stitches”.
I started by doing two in each and about 6 stitches down the row realized that was not going to work. Someone more novice than myself might not realize where the problem is.
Thanks for working up a crochet version as I am SO slow at knitting 🙂 All of your new yarns and patterns are definitely welcomed!
I have the 21 colors and have just started knitting the scarf. At 6 rows per color, my scarf is coming out a little over an 1 inch per color change. The scarf will be measuring 42+ inches. I looked at the scarf on the website closely and I see 8 rows per color. The scarf is coming out beautiful even with the shorter rows.
