Baseball Amigurumi Pattern

TECHNIQUE USED: Crochet
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Amigurumi measures approximately 1 1/2”/4cm in diameter
YARN: Caron International’s Simply Soft (100% Acrylic; 6oz/170g, 315yds/288m):
#0001 Vanilla (A): 1 skein and #9748 Rubine Red (B): small amount
CROCHET HOOK: One size US E-4 (3.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Yarn needle, two 6mm safety eyes, fiberfill stuffing, stitch marker,
GAUGE: 20 sts and 23 rows sc = 4″/10cm. Exact gauge is not critical for this project; stitching should be tight.
STITCHES USED: Chain (ch); single crochet (sc)
SPECIAL TERMS: sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook), insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook.
NOTE: Do not join rounds. Place a marker in the last stitch of round and move up as rounds progress.
BASEBALL DIRECTIONS
With A, ch 2
Round 1: 6 sc in first ch, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc.
Round 3: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around—18 sc.
Round 4: *Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around—24 sc.
Round 5: *Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around—30 sc.
Rounds 6-10: Sc in each sc around.
Note: Place eyes on baseball. With yarn needle and C, back st mouth on baseball as pictured. Stuff the amigurumi and continue to stuff as work progresses.
Round 11: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around—24 sc.
Round 12: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around—18 sc.
Round 13: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next sc; rep from * around—12 sc.
Round 14: [Sc2tog over next 2 sts] around—6 sc.
Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, weave through final rnd of sts, pull tight and secure.
FINISHING: With yarn needle and B, back st lines on ball to mimic baseball stitching. Weave in ends. Roll in hands to evenly distribute stuffing.
